Mountain Bike Leader Award

NCA are an accredited MIAS centre.

The purpose of the Mountain Bike Instructors Award Scheme is to promote the safe enjoyment of Mountain Biking in an off-road environment.

The scheme provides training and assessment in the technical and group management skills required by those who wish to lead groups in a variety of on and off-road environments in the UK and abroad.

Course Content

  • Assessment of individual technical ability
  • Ability to navigate a mixture of terrain in a controlled manor
  • Group control in varying conditions and with varying abilities
  • Ride Leader roles & responsibilities
  • Basic navigation skills
  • Introduction to personal & group equipment required
  • M-check & basic maintenance procedures
  • Access & Conservation Laws
  • Pre-ride & post ride procedures including risk assessments and session plans
  • Practical assessment, Course Review and Post Course Assessment
  • Individual logbook and certificate subject to successful completion
