The purpose of the Mountain Bike Instructor training award scheme is to promote the safe enjoyment of Mountain Biking in an off-road environment.
The scheme provides training and assessment in the technical and group management skills required by those who wish to lead groups in a variety of on and off-road environments in the UK and abroad. Our course is suitable for people with a wide range of mountain biking experience and can be tailored to suit the needs of small and large groups.
The Mountain-bike Instructors’ Award Scheme gives you the chance to skilfully lead mountain biking trips in natural, off-road environments. We offer a comprehensive MIAS mountain bike instructor course, tailored to meet your individual needs. The award scheme is suitable for those who want to lead groups safely and confidently around the widest range of on and off-road environments in the UK and abroad.
Upon successful completion of the scheme, participants will receive a MIAS Mountain Bike Leader Award, which is recognised by mountain bike instructor employers in the UK and worldwide. Course Content:
- Assessment of individual technical ability.
- Ability to navigate a mixture of terrain in a controlled manner.
- Group control in varying conditions and with varying abilities.
- Ride Leader roles & responsibilities.
- Basic navigation skills.
- Introduction to personal & group equipment required.
- M-check & basic maintenance procedures.
- Access & Conservation Laws.
- Pre-ride & post-ride procedures including risk assessments and session plans.
- Practical assessment, Course Review and Post Course Assessment.
- Individual logbook and certificate subject to successful completion.
