The purpose of the Mountain Bike Instructor training award scheme is to promote the safe enjoyment of Mountain Biking in an off-road environment.

The mountain bike instructors training scheme provides training and assessment in the technical and group management skills required by those who wish to lead groups in a variety of on and off-road environments in the UK and abroad. Our course is suitable for people with a wide range of mountain biking experience and can be tailored to suit the needs of small and large groups.

Who is the mountain bike leader award for?

The Mountain Bike Leader Award is suitable for individuals looking to lead mountain biking activities, support organised rides or begin their journey towards becoming a mountain bike instructor. The qualification is commonly completed by outdoor leaders, coaches, activity providers and experienced riders seeking recognised leadership training.

Course Content:

The MIAS Level 1 Mountain Bike Leader Award combines practical riding skills with leadership and group management training, giving participants the knowledge required to lead riders safely in a variety of environments.

Assessment of individual technical ability.
Ability to navigate a mixture of terrain in a controlled manner.
Group control in varying conditions and with varying abilities.
Ride Leader roles & responsibilities.
Basic navigation skills.
Introduction to personal & group equipment required.

M-check & basic maintenance procedures.
Access & Conservation Laws.
Pre-ride & post-ride procedures including risk assessments and session plans.
Practical assessment, Course Review and Post Course Assessment.
Individual logbook and certificate subject to successful completion.
